The Best Post-Pregnancy Bras

It’s needless to say, your body goes through a number of changes during pregnancy, one of the main changes being the size of your boobs. Although we look forward to getting back to our ‘normal bodies’ after giving birth, this isn’t always the case and your pre-pregnancy bras just aren’t cutting it post-birth. To help you tackle your post-pregnancy woes, we run through the top 5 most common breast problems and the post-pregnancy bras that will help you beat them.

1. Your bras are uncomfortable around your ribs

During your 6th-8th week of pregnancy, your boobs start to grow. This continues throughout your pregnancy and for some, even after you’ve had the baby. The combination of bigger boobs, along with any potential weight gain means you’re likely to need both a bigger cup and back size. Lots of women have reported going up 2 cup sizes and even 4 sizes in the back.

The solution is to invest in a bigger bra size. Attempt to do your own bra fitting following our handy bra fitting guide and find a bra that will fit you for the foreseeable future. Another thing that will help you feel more comfortable is to avoid underwired bras. Soft cup bras support you without the risk of anything sticking into your ribs. Bras you can try are our Emily B bras, both our Iris Full Cup Bra and our Sophia Soft Cup Bra are 100% cotton lined and have a soft cup to ensure comfort.

2. It’s difficult to breastfeed in your current bras

While feeding your baby you may find it’s a faff to quickly release your nipples under layers of clothing. Cue the nursing bra. These types of bras are specially designed with drop cups, meaning the cup covering your nipple can be easily unclipped with one hand to allow easy access. These bras are also soft cup for extra comfort post-baby. Our recommended post-pregnancy bras are our Naturana Drop Cup Nursing Breastfeeding Bra or our Freya Chi Drop Cup Nursing Bra.

3. You feel your breasts are sagging

While we know appearance isn’t your number one priority for months after giving birth, the number of changes your body goes through can leave you lacking in confidence. If you feel your boobs aren’t as full of life as they used to be, or you have a lot of loose skin which is common after post-pregnancy weight loss, a simple solution to this is to try a maternity bra with a full cup. This type of cup helps lift heavier breasts, keep everything in place and help you to feel great again. Good post-pregnancy bras with full cups include the Anita Nursing Maternity Bra.

4. Your boobs are sore

Unfortunately, it’s normal for your breasts to feel sore for weeks after delivery. So, don’t try and squeeze into a lacy, unsupportive number. Maternity bras are designed to offer comfort and cushioning, which is also essential after giving birth. A spacer bra is a lightweight alternative to a padded bra and still offers shape and comfort just with added breathability in soft materials. So, if tender boobs are giving you grief, the best post-pregnancy bras for this are our Anita Nursing Plunge Bra or Freya Pure Nursing Drop Cup Bra.

5. Your boobs are leaking unexpectedly

Finally, another post-baby faux-pas is leaky boobs. Whether you choose to breastfeed or not, according to healthywomen.com you can lactate for up to two years after giving birth. This is all well and good when you’re actually breastfeeding, but during a day at the shops, a leaking breast can get embarrassing! The solution to this is to invest in a bra with padding. This isn’t guaranteed to stop the milk making its way to your top, however, it will provide more of a barrier if it’s something you’re paranoid about. Try our Freya Pure Nursing Drop Cup Bra to combat this.

We hope our bra shopping tips help you achieve maximum comfort while you enjoy the early months with your new-born! Visit our Maternity section for all your bra needs during and after pregnancy.
